It is designed to create a comfortable and secure environment for the athletes to rest and prepare for their events. The village also fosters an atmosphere of camaraderie and cultural exchange among athletes from different countries, making it a uniquely vibrant and dynamic community during the Olympic Games.

Just recently, an Olympic swimmer (woman) was banned from the village for ‘inapprpriate’ behavior. Paraguay swimmer Luana Alonso was ‘booted’ from the Olympic Village following her claims that she wanted to “represent the US more” than her own country.

“It’s not a pleasure to represent Paraguay and if it were up to me, I would go back to college,” she said in an interview.

Her inappropriate behavior included trips to Disneyland and being a distraction to other athletes.

“After your event you are there to support your teammates or you go home. Every athlete knows this so she has no excuse,” one fan said of the situation.

“I feel like the entitlement here is expecting her to go an be a cheerleader for her team after she’s done competing. Not her going out and enjoying herself after she finishes,” another fan commented.
